In 2019, the Wye & Usk catchments were selected to be part of a novel approach to support delivery of “collective action” in the supply chains of the ‘Courtauld 2025 Commitment’ signatories.
This is an ambitious voluntary agreement from organisations across the food production system. The objective is to make production and the consumption of food and drink more sustainable. For the rivers, this means less soil and nutrients being washed into them and, therefore, a healthier aquatic ecosystem.
The signatories have made a commitment to implement changes in the way they operate that cut the carbon, water and waste associated with food and drink by at least one-fifth in 10 years.
